Out of Africa

Classic memoir: Out of Africa is Isak Dinesen’s memoir of her years in Africa, from 1914 to 1931, on a four-thousand-acre coffee plantation in the hills near Nairobi.

Want to write a memoir in 2016 or learn how to shape and continue one you’ve already started? Come along to our two-hour workshop, suitable for beginner or experienced writers.

H is for Hawk

Contemporary award winning memoir about dealing with loss and grief:  When Helen Macdonald’s father died suddenly on a London street, she was devastated. An experienced falconer, Helen had never before been tempted to train one of the most vicious predators, the goshawk, but in her grief, she saw that the goshawk’s fierce and feral temperament mirrored her own.

You may choose to write a coming-of-age memoir, one on dealing with adversity, a memoir about relationships with parents, siblings or lovers, tracking an illness, travel and life in other countries. Or perhaps you would like to write about your whole life as a record for family and friends?

We will introduce exercises to help you select and structure the events in your life, find an interesting angle and the threads that tie events together.
